Post Jam Update

Hey! So the Game Boy Showdown 2023 game jam was a lot of fun and I learned a lot. I'm proud of this messy game even if it didn't get as much polish as I wanted during the week of the jame.

I've gone back in and updated a few things to smooth over the experience, the kind of stuff I'd have added if I hadn't run out of time during the jam. A full changelist is below:

  • Fixed (hopefully) the bug that made fireballs change state one frame before leaving the screen - no more taking damage on friendly fire (please report if you're still experiencing this bug).
  • Changed the background palette for Level 2 in story mode so it doesn't clash with yellow fireballs.
  • Added extra life hearts to Story Mode.
  • Hearts now earn 5 points in Endless Mode and 1 point in Story Mode.
  • Added colour to your best friend in Story Mode.
  • Added a DMG mode - it might not run very well, but hopefully it's playable at least!
  • Added some guidance on screen to tell you what score you need in each level of Story Mode.
  • Added Level Complete text and a jumping animation when you complete a level in Story Mode.#
  • Flipped the Story Mode and Endless Mode options on the title screen because you're probably going to want to play Endless Mode more often than Story Mode.
  • Removed Herobrine (it's an older meme, sir, but it checks out).
  • Lowered speed for Story Mode.

I've still got some more bugs to fix, but hopefully this version will be a little less glitchy than the Game Jam version.

Thanks very much to everyone who played this and rated me during the Game Jam, and for all the wonderful comments and feedback, thank you.

Oh wow. I'll give this a try very soon! :)

Maybe don't try it just yet, this update broke the speed changes on endless mode so it's too easy! I've got another update coming soon.

Ah, I only tried story mode yet!

I also realized that your friend screen uses two different black tones for the outlines. Don't know if that's intentional, but I guess not.

Oh yeah, that needs to be fixed too, thanks!
